Bad, bad (broke) photomonkey.

Ever since my stepmother bought her macro studio so that I could shoot her jewelry, I've been wanting one. Yes, I could make one. But I'm lazy. And I'm throwing my budget to the four winds, at least temporarily. (I bought a new tripod this weekend; my old one is broken. Not to mention the case for the new computer I'm slowly building.)

But Calumet, bless their hearts, sent me an email today with the latest reviews, deals and whatnot. That included a sale on their PortaCubes. And I gave in; I went ahead and bought the PortaCube 40, their smallest model (I really don't need anything larger). I'll have to let you know how it works when I get it into my eagerly waiting hands. I'm expecting good things; I bought my Nikon D40 from them, as well as their house-brand flash triggers, and so far I am immensely pleased.

In addition to these, one of my friends is a complete saint. See, she had this 35mm Nikon SLR sitting around the past few years, as well as 28-80mm and 70-300mm lenses. She hasn't been using them, and didn't expect to in the forseeable future. These lenses (or equivalents) retail at about $100 and $500, respectively. This lovely, beautiful, wonderful friend of mine practically gifted them to me - as well as the 35mm SLR, and the case she had them in - for $120. Needless to say, I had some fun with them this weekend; I'll post photos as soon as I can get them out of my camera.

I am a happy, happy - but slightly broke - photomonkey. :)
